Greetings to you all from the Bay of Plenty!

Ahakoa nga ueue
Kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui
When you find things that are difficult in life
Stand strong, stand tall, and be of great heart (http://cedpataka.wikispaces.com/Whakatauki)

I find it can be really hard to stand strong and tall in the face of loss and grief but I am meditating upon how to be of 'great heart' so that I have the capacity to manage all the stuff of life.

What's been happening in the Bay?

Since the last newsletter the BOP NZCCA hosted a Dream Workshop facilitated by Margaret Bowater. It was held on September 17 & 18 and was a stimulating two days of good food, good company, and great teaching.

October 4 we had an inspiring and informative evening when Dr. James Arkwright spoke to the group about the role of metaphor in the lives of people with illness/disability and how language constructs limitations and possibilities. James used this lovely quote to explain how language constructs all that we are and do. "Subjecthood is granted ... In recognition of the coexistence of oneself with the text... the sense that there is no fixed referent existing outside the text. We are the story happening to us, we are freewheeling in language" (Davies, 2006)
